| The Free Spirits Horsemanship Team began in 2000. The purpose of the team is to help young people learn and share knowledge about horses. The team currently has members from several counties. Members participate in monthly meetings, equine clinics, equestrian mounted drill team and numerous riding activities. The Mounted Drill Team started as a way for the club’s members to increase their riding skills and team spirit. The riders perform various difficult choreographed patterns to music within a 10-minute period. Our drill team competes yearly at the Georgia Horse Council Drill Team Competition and the senior team performed at the Super Ride VII national drill team competition in Canton, Texas. The team performs annually at the Franklin County FFA Rodeo and the Greeson Memorial Rodeo. The Free Spirits have performed their exciting routines at IPRA, PCRA, and SRA Rodeos over the years. Horse shows in the area and parades are also ways the team showcases their talents. |
| Drill Team Anthem Written by E. Rusti Quinto "I thought we had it all, my horse and I, with schooling shows and pleasant trails to ride. We felt restless, and a bit unsatisfied. I longed to find a new sport, one where we could be part of something grander, with a team of those who shared a bright and special dream. It wasn't long till I found others who agreed we should commit and take the chance that with work and practice and a little art we could turn our love of riding into dance. That's how Drill Teams are born, and why they thrive. As gaily costumed riders work as one to make the moves and music come alive. To hone our skills, show off and have some fun. So when you hear the music start to play and the hoofbeats sound as we begin our ride the sparkles on our costumes catch the sun and smiles on our faces shine with pride". |
